Dutch Inflation Rate Falls to 4-Month Low

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands decreased marginally to 2.8% in December 2025, from 2.9% in November, as per preliminary estimates. This represents the lowest rate recorded in four months, primarily influenced by a reduction in energy costs, including motor fuels (dropping from 0.8% to -0.4%). Additionally, there was a deceleration in services inflation, which decreased to 4.1% from 4.3%. On the other hand, prices for industrial goods, excluding energy and motor fuels, showed an uptick, rising from 0.5% to 0.9%, while inflation rates for food, beverages, and tobacco remained steady at 3.1%. Month-on-month, consumer prices were anticipated to stagnate, following a significant 0.8% decline in November. Furthermore, the HICP-based annual inflation rate, which omits owner-occupied housing costs, was projected to be 2.5% in December, slightly down from 2.6% in the previous month.
