In December 2025, Mongolia experienced a deceleration in its annual inflation rate, which relaxed to 7.5% from the 8.2% recorded in November. This figure represents the lowest inflation rate since October 2024, with a noticeable moderation in prices across several key sectors. Specifically, there was a decline in inflation rates for food and non-alcoholic beverages, dropping to 11.3% from 12% in November, as well as in the transport sector, which decreased to 2.2% from 4.3%. Housing and utilities also saw a reduction, reporting a rate of 4.6% compared to 5.8% previously.
Inflation rates for clothing and footwear saw a slower increase, easing from 7.8% to 6.9%, while furnishings and household equipment experienced a slight drop from 7.2% to 7%. Additionally, the rates for recreation and culture marginally decreased to 7% from 7.1%, and restaurants and hotels fell to 10.5% from 10.9%. However, there was an acceleration in the costs of alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose to 6.8% from 5.6%, as well as in health, which increased to 6.2% from 5.9%. Communication saw a slight rise to 1.5% from 1.4%, and miscellaneous goods and services edged up to 11% from 10.2%. The prices for education remained constant at 12.8%, and there was no change in costs for insurance and financial services, holding steady at 15.3%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices held steady in December at 0.6%, unchanged from the previous month.
