World Bank Expects 2026 Global GDP Growth at 2.6%

The global economy is demonstrating greater resilience than previously anticipated. According to the World Bank's semi-annual Global Economic Prospects report released on Tuesday, projected GDP growth for 2026 is expected to improve slightly compared to last June's forecast, with an increase to 2.6%, up from 2.7% estimated for 2025, and with expectations to rise again to 2.7% in 2027. This represents an upward revision of two-tenths of a percentage point for 2026 compared to June's estimate, while 2025 is projected to surpass the initial forecast by four-tenths of a percentage point. The World Bank attributes approximately two-thirds of this positive adjustment to stronger-than-anticipated growth in the United States, despite trade tensions exacerbated by tariffs. The US GDP is forecasted to grow by 2.2% in 2026, increasing from 2.1% in 2025, which reflects an upward revision of two-tenths and half a percentage point from the June forecasts, respectively. Nonetheless, the report cautions that economic growth is overly concentrated in advanced economies and remains insufficient to significantly reduce extreme poverty globally.
