In January 2026, Austria experienced an unemployment rate increase to 8.8%, up from 8.6% the previous year, reaching its highest point since March 2021. This uptick corresponds to a year-on-year rise of 14,025 in the total number of unemployed individuals, bringing the figure to 379,771. Additionally, there was an increase of 16,765 compared to the preceding month. Analyzing by gender, the unemployment rate for women increased by 0.4 percentage points to 7.3% since January 2025, while the rate for men went up by 0.2 percentage points to 10.2%. In total, approximately 456,192 individuals were either registered as unemployed or participating in training programs as of January.
