In January 2026, the number of individuals registering as unemployed in Spain increased by 30,392 compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 2.439 million. This figure surpassed the market's expectations of a 10,500 rise. The uptick in unemployment was observed primarily in the services sector, which saw an increase of 35,073, and in agriculture, which rose by 881. Conversely, there were declines in unemployment within the construction sector, which decreased by 3,793, and in industry, with a slight dip of 14. Notably, youth unemployment increased by 4,040 to 180,892, marking the lowest number recorded for January. The most significant rises in unemployment were noted in the regions of Andalusia (+8,046), Madrid (+3,659), and Galicia (+3,113).
