Norway’s manufacturing output fell by 0.9% month-over-month in April 2026, offsetting a 2.0% increase recorded in March. Growth eased in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector (0.3% vs 1.0% in March), while several categories swung into decline: fabricated metal products (-2.3% vs +1.6%), repair and installation of machinery (-2.5% vs +2.8%), computer and electrical equipment (-0.7% vs +2.0%), machinery and equipment (-1.6% vs +2.7%), ships, boats, and oil platforms (-0.7% vs +4.6%), and rubber, plastic, and mineral products (-0.2% vs +2.5%).
By contrast, output rebounded sharply in refined petroleum, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals (up 4.5% vs -1.9% in March) and in basic metals (up 5.5% vs -0.1%). On an annual basis, overall manufacturing production declined by 0.6% in April, following a 3.2% increase in March.
