In June 2025, Slovakia experienced a 0.4% decline in retail sales compared to the same month in the previous year, showing an improvement from the 1.8% drop recorded in May. This marked the fifth month in a row of declining retail activity, though the decrease was less pronounced due to gains in several sectors. Sales of automotive fuel increased by 1.5%, up from a 0.2% rise in May, and there was a notable increase in sales of other goods in specialized stores, which surged by 5.4% compared to 1.6% previously. Additionally, sales of ICT equipment rebounded with a 0.9% increase, recovering from a 0.7% decrease. Sales declines were less severe for household equipment (-1.9% compared to -10.6%), stalls and markets (-4% compared to -11.4%), and cultural and recreational goods, which dropped by 15.7% compared to 23.2% in the previous month. Growth in non-specialized stores eased to 2.1% from 3.1%, while the decline in sales for goods not sold in traditional retail outlets, including stalls and markets, intensified slightly (-4.8% vs. -4.6%). However, on a month-over-month basis, retail trade increased by 0.2%, bouncing back from a 1.3% decrease in the prior month.
