In March 2025, the U.S. labor market displayed robust growth, adding 228,000 jobs, surpassing both the downwardly revised figure of 117,000 in February and the anticipated 135,000. This marks the most significant job gain in three months. Notably, employment increased across several sectors: health care added 54,000 jobs, social assistance saw an increase of 24,000, and transportation and warehousing contributed 23,000 new positions. The retail trade sector grew by 24,000 jobs, primarily due to workers returning from a strike. However, federal government employment saw a decline of 4,000 jobs, following a reduction of 11,000 in February. Other industries, such as mining, quarrying, oil and gas extraction, construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, information, financial activities, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and other services, showed little employment change during the month. Additionally, revisions for January and February indicate that employment is 48,000 jobs lower than initially reported for those months.
