Malta Inflation Rate Eases in September

In September 2025, Malta experienced a slight decrease in its annual inflation rate, reducing to 2.4% from 2.7% in the preceding month. This marks the lowest inflation rate since March. Notable areas where inflation eased include food and non-alcoholic beverages, declining to 3.5% from 4% in August; alcoholic beverages and tobacco, dropping to 1.7% from 2%; restaurants and hotels, which decreased to 3.4% from 3.5%; and transport, which fell to 2.3% from 3.4%.

The cost of clothing and footwear notably declined, shifting from a 2.7% increase to a reduction of 0.7%. The communication sector saw an even sharper decrease, with prices declining from -3.1% to -3.4%. Meanwhile, prices remained stable in several areas, including housing and utilities at 0.7%, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance at 1.7%, health at 2.8%, recreation and culture at 2.4%, and education at 5.2%.

Conversely, inflation saw an uptick in the category of miscellaneous goods and services, rising to 3.7% from 3.4%. On a monthly basis, September witnessed a 1.3% decrease in consumer prices, effectively reversing a 0.7% increase observed in August.
