The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, an indicator for shipping rates of dry commodities, ended its three-day upward trend on Tuesday, decreasing approximately 1.5% to reach a near one-week low of 1,263 points. This decline was driven by a downturn in the larger-sized vessel category. The capesize index, which includes ships transporting 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, also saw its three-day rise come to an end, with a 4.1% fall to 1,753 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which typically monitors vessels hauling 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased for the second consecutive session, climbing by 18 points to hit a one-week peak of 1,208 points. Additionally, the supramax index broke its 14-session losing streak, gaining one point to settle at 937 points.
