Retail sales in Greece experienced a decline of 5.6% in May 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, following an eleven-month high increase of 7.4% in April. This decline is the first since December 2024 and is evident across all sub-indices: food products dropped by 5.1% following a 12.9% increase, non-food products fell by 1.8% compared to a previous increase of 6.4%, and sales of automotive fuel decreased by 9.0% after a 4.7% rise. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade decreased by 1.7% in May, reversing the 1% growth seen in April.
