FX.co ★ Hungary Gross Wage Growth at 7-Month Low

Hungary’s gross average wages increased by 8.5% year-on-year to HUF 789,200 in December 2025, easing from an 8.9% rise in November. This was the slowest wage growth since May, reflecting weaker increases in the public sector (7.3% vs 10.7% in November) and the non-profit sector (9.8% vs 12%). In contrast, wage growth in the private sector continued to strengthen, accelerating to 8.7% from 8.1% in the previous month. Excluding one-off payments and bonuses, gross average wages were 9.4% higher than a year earlier, amounting to HUF 683,400 in December. For the full year 2025, gross average wages rose by 9.8%, indicating robust overall wage growth despite a gradual slowdown in some sectors.
