US Imports Drop in June

US imports declined by $7.3 billion, or 1.8%, from the previous month to $388.0 billion in June 2026, marking the first monthly decrease since January. Goods imports fell by $7.9 billion to $309.0 billion, with Census-basis goods imports down $7.7 billion.

The overall decline was driven mainly by lower imports of capital goods (down $2.1 billion), particularly computers (down $3.0 billion), and consumer goods (down $2.1 billion), led by pharmaceutical preparations (down $1.9 billion). These decreases were partly offset by a $1.1 billion increase in imports of telecommunications equipment.

In contrast, services imports rose by $0.6 billion to $79.0 billion. The increase was led by higher payments for the use of intellectual property (up $0.7 billion), transport services (up $0.2 billion), and insurance services (up $0.1 billion), partly offset by a $0.4 billion decline in travel services.
