Canada Exports Rise to Fresh Record High

Canadian merchandise exports edged up 0.4% month over month in June 2026 to a record CAD 77.5 billion, extending their gains for a fifth consecutive month.

Exports of metal and non‑metallic mineral products surged 16.5%, driven by a 27.9% jump in shipments of unwrought gold, silver, platinum group metals, and their alloys. This reflected higher gold exports to the United Kingdom and stronger foreign demand overall. Exports of metal ores and non‑metallic minerals also rose 7.3%, led by a 20% increase in copper ores and concentrates and higher sulphur shipments.

Meanwhile, exports of motor vehicles and parts increased 2.4%, as stronger domestic production pushed passenger car and light truck exports to their highest level since March 2025. These advances were largely offset by a 10% decline in energy product exports.

After rising 4.6% in the first quarter, total exports grew 13.1% in the second quarter, marking the strongest quarterly increase since the third quarter of 2020.
