On Wednesday, May 23, the US Department of Commerce had implemented import duties on rolled steel from Vietnam.
The American customs authorities imposed anti-dumping duties of 199.76% and countervailing duties of 256.44% on the imported cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel produced in Vietnam. The outcome of such measures was the collective complaint addressed to the US Department of Commerce from such national producers like ArcelorMittal USA, Nucor Corp, AK Steel Holdings
Corp, and US Steel Corp.
The US Department of Commerce said that three years ago, after the imposition of anti-dumping duties on Chinese steel products, supplies of cold-rolled steel from Vietnam to America rose to $215 million per year, and the import of corrosion resistant steel increased to $80 million from the previous $2 million.
According to experts, the imposition of obstructing duties on the Vietnamese steel demonstrates the total victory of American metallurgists, who won anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on the Chinese steel back in 2015 and 2016.
