In August 2025, Sweden's trade deficit expanded to SEK 8.9 billion, compared to SEK 6.3 billion recorded in the same month the previous year. The decline in exports, which dropped by 5.1% to SEK 144.0 billion, represents the lowest figures in over three and a half years, primarily affected by reduced sales to both the EU (-9.4% to SEK 79.3 billion) and non-EU regions (-7.7% to SEK 64.7 billion). Conversely, imports fell at a lesser rate of 3.2%, reaching SEK 152.9 billion, as a result of diminished purchases from EU countries (-2.2% to SEK 99.5 billion) and non-EU sources (-5.2% to SEK 53.4 billion). From January through August, the cumulative trade surplus slightly decreased to SEK 55.7 billion from SEK 55.8 billion in the same period the previous year. Seasonally adjusted figures reveal that the surplus dwindled to SEK 4.6 billion in August, down from SEK 5.6 billion in July.
