FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Rises Further, Posts Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which measures freight rates for vessels carrying dry commodities, rose for a third consecutive session on Friday, gaining about 2.8% to reach 2,028 points. The capesize index, reflecting rates for vessels that typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, advanced 5.8% to 2,880 points. The panamax index, which tracks ships that usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, inched up 0.2% to 1,838 points. Among the smaller vessel segments, the supramax index edged down 0.5% to 1,283 points. Overall, the benchmark index recorded a weekly increase of 0.9%.
