Hong Kong’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 3.8% in the three months to February 2026, from a 2022 peak of 3.9% in the preceding period. The number of unemployed persons fell by 3,700 to 134,700, while total employment slipped by 2,900 to 3.66 million.
Among younger workers aged 20 to 29, the unemployment rate also declined, easing to 6.9% from 7.0% in the three months to January. This marks its lowest level since June 2025. The underemployment rate held steady at 1.7%, and the labour force participation rate edged down to 56.5% from 56.7%.
Looking ahead, the continued growth momentum of Hong Kong’s economy is expected to provide ongoing support to the overall labour market. Nonetheless, employment conditions in certain domestic sectors may remain under pressure, depending on individual business performance.
