Turkey’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 8.2% in May 2026, unchanged from the previous month. The number of unemployed fell by 9,000 to 2.88 million. By gender, the unemployment rate was 7.0% for men and 10.5% for women.
Among young people aged 15–24, the unemployment rate rose to 14.8% from 14.4%. Within this group, the rate stood at 11.2% for young men and 21.8% for young women.
The employment rate increased to 48.5% from 48.1%, as the number of employed persons grew by 285,000 to 32.46 million. The labor force participation rate climbed to 52.8% from 52.4%, with the labor force expanding by 293,000 to 35.35 million.
Average actual weekly working hours rose to 42.4 hours in May, up 0.2 hours from the previous month.
