French domestic producer prices fell by 0.3% month-on-month in May 2026, after a revised 2.0% decline in April. Prices for mining, quarrying, energy, and water decreased by 1.2%, easing from an 11.0% slump in April, as electricity prices fell at a slower rate (-2.7% vs. -22.4%) following April’s seasonal downturn.
In contrast, prices for manufactured goods were unchanged in May, after rising 1.0% in April. Within this category, prices for coke and refined petroleum products dropped 7.3%, reversing a 7.8% increase, as global oil prices retreated from their March spike. Prices for other industrial products continued to climb (0.8%), driven mainly by higher plastic product prices, while food prices inched up 0.2%, recovering from a 0.2% decline in the previous month.
Transport equipment costs were stable, and prices for electronic and machinery equipment edged up 0.1%. On an annual basis, producer prices rose 3.0% in May, up from a 2.3% increase in April, marking the fastest annual gain since May 2023.
