North Macedonia’s trade deficit widened to $390 million in July 2026 from $380 million a year earlier, marking the largest gap in three months. Exports rose 8.7% year-on-year to $846.6 million, while imports increased 6.7% to $1,236 million.
Over the January–July period, exports grew 13.9% to $5,932 million, supported by higher sales of chemicals and related products (25.6%), machinery and transport equipment (6.3%), and products classified by material (11.7%). Export growth was particularly strong to Germany (8.9%), Bulgaria (24.7%), and Hungary (13.4%).
During the same period, imports climbed 13.5% to $8,370 million, driven by increased purchases of chemicals and related products (15.5%), products classified by material (18.2%), and machinery and transport equipment (4.4%). The fastest import growth was recorded from Great Britain (60.4%), Greece (43.7%), and China (10.8%).
As a result, the trade deficit in the first seven months of the year widened to $2,437 million, compared with $2,167 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
