Lithuania’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 6.1% year-on-year in August 2026, up from 5.9% in July, reaching its highest level since August 2023. The uptick was mainly driven by stronger price growth in transport (15% vs. 12.5% in July) and housing and utilities (15.8% vs. 15.1%). Prices also rose more rapidly for recreation, sport, and culture (6.2% vs. 5.2%); personal care, social protection, and other miscellaneous goods and services (6.9% vs. 5.7%); furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (2.8% vs. 2.4%); restaurants and hotels (5.9% vs. 5.5%); and information and communication (2.1% vs. 1.6%).
By contrast, inflation slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.1% vs. 7.6%), clothing and footwear (0.8% vs. 1.8%), and education (5.2% vs. 5.3%), while remaining unchanged for health (4.9%). Food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to register deflation, with prices falling further (-2.0% vs. -0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined by 0.1% in August, reversing the 0.2% increase recorded in July.
