Moody's Revises Bangladesh Credit Outlook to Stable

On September 15, 2026, Moody’s Ratings revised its outlook on Bangladesh’s sovereign credit rating, affirming the rating at ‘B2’ but changing the outlook to ‘stable’ from ‘negative’, citing reduced political and external pressures. The agency noted that the post-election transition and a strong government mandate have lowered the risk of disruptions to economic reforms. At the same time, higher foreign exchange reserves, a more flexible exchange rate regime, and record levels of remittances have strengthened the country’s external position and helped cushion the impact of elevated energy costs.

Moody’s also highlighted that Bangladesh continues to face significant structural challenges, including a narrow revenue base, weak debt affordability, and persistent vulnerabilities in the banking sector. Earlier, in June, S&P Global revised its long-term outlook on Bangladesh to ‘negative’ from ‘stable’, pointing to ongoing fragilities in the banking system and additional risks related to volatile global energy markets and uncertain trade conditions. Standard & Poor’s currently rates Bangladesh at ‘B+’ with a negative outlook.
