India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.8% higher at 74,894.9 on Monday, snapping a two-day losing streak, supported by a sharp decline in global crude oil prices and renewed foreign fund inflows. Sentiment also improved as investors looked to this week’s UN General Assembly for potential diplomatic progress on the Iran conflict, while a partial resumption of oil shipments from Saudi Arabia helped ease inflation concerns.
Among individual stocks, UltraTech Cement, HCL Tech, Eternal, Titan, ITC and Tech Mahindra were the top performers, gaining between 1.8% and 4.1%. On the downside, Bharti Airtel (-1.9%), Power Grid (-1.2%) and Infosys (-1.0%) underperformed. Tata Steel slipped 0.6% as Tata Group shares remained under pressure amid rising tensions between Tata Trusts and Tata Sons regarding the conglomerate’s leadership and future structure.
