Greece’s trade deficit widened to EUR 2.2 billion in August 2026, up from EUR 2.1 billion in the same month a year earlier. Imports rose sharply by 17.7% year-on-year to EUR 6.5 billion, reflecting strong growth in purchases from both non-EU countries (+28.0%) and EU partners (+8.9%). Exports also posted robust gains, climbing 26.7% to EUR 4.3 billion, supported by higher shipments to non-EU markets (+29.2%) and EU countries (+24.5%). Over the January–August period, however, the trade deficit narrowed slightly to EUR 21.4 billion, compared with EUR 22.0 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
