Germany’s new car registrations rose 9.0% year-on-year in September 2026 to 256,774 units, driven by a 28.5% surge in private registrations. Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) captured 34.5% of the market, with 88,599 new registrations, while hybrids accounted for 38.5%. By contrast, gasoline registrations fell 29.2% and diesel registrations declined 20.1%, underscoring the ongoing shift toward electrified vehicles. Over the first nine months of 2026, total new car registrations reached 2.22 million, an increase of 5.3% compared with the same period a year earlier.
