The US president is wrong in saying that BRICS is dead. This alliance acts as a growing counterweight to the West, with no plans to give up.
US President Donald Trump recently declared that the BRICS alliance is "dead" and not worth reviving. His remark came after he threatened to impose steep tariffs on BRICS nations if they proceed with their recent plan to create a currency alternative to the US dollar.
"BRICS was created for a bad purpose. Most of these people don’t want to work together. They’re afraid to say it because if these countries try to play games with the dollar, they will be hit with a 100% tariff the same day. Then they’ll come back and say: ‘We beg you not to do this,’” Trump stated.
Summing up his remarks, the US president bluntly concluded: “BRICS is dead.”
However, many disagree with his viewpoint. Interestingly, BRICS nations have previously discussed expanding trade settlements in national currencies and even creating a common monetary unit within the alliance.
No final decision has been made on this initiative, but one thing is certain—BRICS is far from dead.
