US President Donald Trump has once again sparked attention with his latest remarks. On May 25, he explained that the primary objective of his tariff policy is to stimulate domestic production of technological goods and military equipment, such as tanks, rather than focus on consumer items like sneakers and T-shirts.
Speaking before boarding Air Force One in New Jersey, Trump indicated that his administration was not concentrating on apparel manufacturing. He questioned the need to produce items like sneakers and shirts, emphasizing the importance of focusing on large-scale production, particularly military equipment and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
He clarified that he did not aim to boost production of everyday clothing such as T-shirts or socks, suggesting that such goods could continue to be manufactured efficiently elsewhere. In his view, the national priority should be the production of microchips, computers, and heavy equipment such as tanks and ships.
