US President Donald Trump has unveiled plans to create federal “AI Forces” and establish a special post of “AI czar,” part of a bid to bring the technology sector under direct government oversight as it becomes an ever‑larger share of the economy. The administration says advanced AI could account for as much as 25% of US GDP in the future.
The new agency would be modeled on the US Space Force created during Trump’s first term. The White House has yet to name a head, but the president has signaled a key hiring criterion: the candidate should possess an exceptionally high IQ. The chief mandate for the role would be preserving American leadership in the strategic competition with China.
Trump framed AI as an invention on the scale of the Internet and a new industrial revolution, rejecting criticism of energy‑hungry data centers as political attacks on innovation. He argued that data farms deliver local prosperity, lower taxes, and higher wages.
The administration says it will refrain from imposing fresh regulatory burdens on the sector. The US leader pledged broad protection for developers and said existing criminal and civil law would be used to police any wrongdoing in the AI space.
