EU approves seventh package of anti-Russian sanctions

The European Union has approved a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. Heated debates on their benefits and harms have been ongoing both in the West and Russia. One thing is clear, new sanctions will surely be introduced. In fact, some EU countries support restrictive measures that would target Russian natural gas. However, most states understand they will not be able to replace Russian natural gas quickly. Therefore, they oppose such a proposal.

On June 3, the European Union adopted the sixth package of punitive measures, which includes a partial embargo on Russian oil, export restrictions, and a ban on providing insurance to any ships carrying Russian oil imports anywhere in the world.

Commenting on the effects of sanctions, Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's envoy to the European Union, noted that it was too early to talk about the seventh package of restrictive measures. Even a blind man could see the economic impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the European Union, he said.
