India aims to become global chip manufacturing hub

India keeps piling up surprises. The country has every chance of achieving a real economic breakthrough, thus taking the lead in the region and competing on equal terms with the world's largest economies. This time, India is positioning itself as another participant in the chip war.

With support from the West, India seems to be gaining confidence when building plans. American investments allow India to boost its semiconductor manufacturing capacity and occupy a worthy place among the largest industry representatives. At SemiconIndia 2023, a three-day conference with senior executives from leading US chip manufacturers organized by New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pitched India as a global player in the semiconductor market. The CEOs of Micron and Cadence as well as top executives at Applied Materials and AMD were on stage alongside Modi. The guests praised the Indian technology sector and unveiled their plans to invest in the country's semiconductor industry.

“For the first time in India's history, geopolitics, domestic policies, and private sector capacity are aligned in India’s favor to become a player in semiconductor production,” Ajit Manocha, the CEO of US-based industry body SEMI, said.

SemiconIndia 2023 showcases India's strong intention to become a major high-tech production hub along with such countries as the United States, Taiwan, and South Korea. New Delhi is keen to attract foreign investment to build manufacturing plants in the country as well as to form alliances with other key semiconductor manufacturing countries such as the US.
