According to Jason Lowery, a major in the United States Space Force, Bitcoin is the best choice for safeguarding the country against cyberattacks. A representative of the military department is counting on the flagship cryptocurrency for national security. With this initiative, Lowery has approached the US Defense Innovation Board. In his letter, he stated that Bitcoin's blockchain can be used for secure data storage. In the view of the military representative, Bitcoin’s proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm significantly reduces the threat of cyberattacks. The reason is high costs associated with this operation. To alter information stored on the Bitcoin blockchain, hackers would need control over at least 51% of the network's computing power. According to Lowery, the PoW algorithm bears many similarities to "deterrence and state security strategies" used by the US armed forces. Therefore, Lowery suggests implementing the PoW consensus algorithm to protect the country in the digital sphere. The major in the US Space Force recommends that the military study the Bitcoin blockchain and find applications for PoW-based networks.
