Ecolab Inc., a company offering water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions, has announced its plans to acquire over 1,000 Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E vehicles. This move is aimed at hastening the transition towards electric vehicles within its North American sales and service fleet.
Ford Pro, the commercial arm of Ford Motor Co., has been chosen by Ecolab for this electrification process, which will start with the transformation of its sales and service vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs) in California by 2025. The company has set a goal to complete the electrification of its North American fleet by 2030.
Ecolab will be deploying over 1,000 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro trucks and Mustang Mach-E SUVs, marking the largest all-electric sales and service fleet in California.
The company anticipates that switching to EVs could reduce overall costs. Predictive financial models indicate a lower total cost of ownership for these vehicles compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Potential savings are estimated at around 50% in annual fuel costs per 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro truck which approximates to saving around $1,400 in fuel per vehicle every year. Once the vehicles are operational, Ecolab plans to utilize Ford Pro's productivity software and service solutions to manage and maintain its fleet in California.
Ford Pro provides comprehensive charging and tracking software that Ecolab will use to ensure optimal performance and productivity of its fleet.
Ecolab views the shift to EVs as an integral part in its aim to achieve net-zero emissions globally by 2050. The company has held a business relationship with Ford since 1925, and currently runs more than 10,000 light-duty vehicles in its North American fleet, 95% of which are Ford vehicles.
