Brunei Consumer Prices Dip for Third Time in 2025

In April 2025, consumer prices in Brunei experienced a modest dip of 0.1% compared to the same month the previous year. This decline is a slight improvement from the 0.5% decrease observed in March and represents the third annual decrease in 2025. Several categories continued to see price reductions, including food and non-alcoholic beverages, which decreased by 0.4% following a 0.6% drop in March, as well as housing and utilities, which remained steady with a 0.2% reduction. Furnishings and household maintenance prices decreased by 0.2%, improving from a 0.9% decline previously, transport prices dropped by 1.1%, a slight improvement from March’s 1.2% decline, while communication costs continued with a consistent 0.5% decrease. Recreation and culture experienced a 1.6% fall, more pronounced than the previous 1.2%, whereas miscellaneous goods and services stayed at a 0.2% reduction. Conversely, education costs remained stable at a 0.3% increase. Health expenses saw an acceleration from 1.1% to 1.5%, and restaurant and hotel prices grew by 0.4% compared to 0.2% in March. A noteworthy change occurred in the clothing and footwear sector, which surged by 8.4%, a significant turnaround from the previous 1.0% decline. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.3%, recovering from the 0.5% decrease noted in March.
