FX.co ★ Hungary Retail Sales Growth Nears 3-Year High

Retail sales in Hungary saw a notable 5% increase year-over-year in April 2025, marking a significant acceleration from the previously revised three-month low of 0.8% in March. This represents the most vigorous growth in retail activity since May 2022. The uptick was most pronounced in the sectors of food, beverages, and tobacco, which surged by 3.7% compared to 1.4% in March, as well as in automotive fuel, which rose by 2.4% from a stagnant 0% the previous month. Conversely, the growth in the non-food product sector decelerated to a four-month low of 4%, down from 5.9% in March. This slowdown can be attributed to reduced sales in textiles, clothing and footwear, and second-hand items. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 2% in April, recovering from a revised 0.3% decline recorded in the previous period.
