France Current Account Gap Largest in Over 2 Years

In April 2025, France experienced a current account deficit of EUR 4.1 billion, a shift from the EUR 1 billion surplus recorded in the preceding month. This represents the most significant current account deficit since February 2023. The expansion of the goods account deficit to EUR 8.9 billion, up from EUR 4.3 billion in March, largely contributed to this outcome. Furthermore, the surplus in the services account decreased to EUR 4.7 billion, down from EUR 5.3 billion the previous month. Similarly, the primary income surplus reduced slightly, registering at EUR 3.9 billion compared to EUR 4 billion earlier. The secondary income deficit remained constant at EUR 3.9 billion for the third consecutive month.
