In June 2025, the United States saw a slight decline in building permits, which dipped by 0.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.393 million, revised down from the initial estimate of 1.397 million. Permits for single-family homes decreased by 3.7%, reaching an annual rate of 866,000. Conversely, permits for buildings with five or more units increased by 7.9%, totaling 477,000. On a regional basis, the Northeast experienced a significant drop of 16.3% to 103,000, and the West saw a decrease of 4.8% to 297,000. In contrast, the South experienced a rise of 4.4% to 775,000, while the Midwest noted a modest increase of 0.5% to 218,000.
