In June 2025, building permits in the United States saw a decline of 2.2%, reaching a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.362 million, which is an upward revision from the preliminary figure of 1.354 million. Nevertheless, this figure represents the lowest point since June 2020. Specifically, permits issued for structures with five or more units fell sharply by 9.4% to an annualized rate of 432,000, whereas permits for single-family homes rose by 1% to a total of 875,000. A regional breakdown reveals that permits decreased in the South by 4.3%, totaling 742,000, and in the West by 7.7%, reaching 274,000. In contrast, the Northeast experienced a significant increase of 21.4%, with permits totaling 125,000, and the Midwest saw a modest rise of 1.4%, achieving 221,000.
