Brazil Current Account Gap Widens in September

In September 2025, Brazil experienced an expansion in its current account deficit, reaching $9.8 billion compared to $7.4 billion during the same period the previous year. This increase was primarily due to a reduction in the trade surplus combined with an enlarged gap in primary income. Specifically, the trade surplus decreased by $2.2 billion and the primary income deficit increased by $946 million. However, this was partially balanced by a $640 million reduction in the services deficit and a $115 million rise in the secondary income surplus. Reviewing the 12-month period ending in September, the current account deficit climbed to $78.9 billion, which represents 3.61% of GDP. This contrasts with the previous month's figure of $76.6 billion (3.53%) and the previous year's $49.8 billion (2.23%).
