In October 2025, the Swedish economy experienced a contraction of 0.3% from the previous month, building on a 0.1% decrease in September, according to preliminary figures. This marks the fifth instance of monthly GDP contraction within the year. As Melker Pettersson Loberg, an economist at Statistics Sweden, notes, "Economic activity in Sweden showed a slight decline in October, attributed to reduced production within the business sector and a drop in household consumption." On an annual basis, GDP rose by 2.1% in October, following a revised upward growth of 2.8% in the preceding month.
