The Hang Seng concluded its session on a positive note at 26,765 on Monday, reversing initial losses and marking its fourth consecutive gain. This upward trend was primarily supported by strength in property and financial stocks. The property index saw a 1.8% increase, benefiting from signs of stabilization in Hong Kong’s housing market, driven by declining interest rates, increased rental prices, and the elimination of stamp duty. Financial stocks also saw an upward movement, bolstered by anticipation of the upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve's policy decision, following China's eighth consecutive month of maintaining lending rates at record lows to boost economic growth.
Additionally, gold and mining stocks in Hong Kong outperformed, with standout performances from Laopu Gold (up 7.2%), Chow Tai Fook (up 2.9%), and Zhaojin Mining (up 1.6%), buoyed by record gold prices surpassing USD 5,000 and robust base metal performance. Other significant gainers included Sun Hung Kai Properties, up 3.7%, Mixue Group, increasing by 3.6%, and China Hongqiao Group, which climbed 2.0%. Investors are now turning their attention to China’s industrial profit report for 2025, set to be released on Tuesday, following a muted growth rate of 0.1% from January to November and a significant 13% decrease in November.
