Austria Producer Prices Fall Softer in January

In January 2026, producer prices in Austria fell by 1.4% year-on-year, easing from a 1.9% decline in December. This was the tenth consecutive month of producer price deflation, but the downward trend weakened as prices for intermediate goods turned positive, rising 0.4% after a 0.4% drop in the previous month.

Energy prices continued to fall, though at a slower pace, decreasing 6.0% compared with a 6.9% decline in December. By contrast, inflation in consumer goods eased to 1.1% from 1.3%, while prices for capital goods slipped 0.1% after a 0.3% increase in the prior month.

On a monthly basis, producer prices edged up 0.1% in January, rebounding from a 0.3% decline in the previous period. The uptick was mainly driven by higher costs in the manufacture of basic metals (+1.3%) and electrical equipment (+0.8%). These gains were partly offset by lower prices for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-0.3%), as well as for food products (-0.3%).
