The latest reading, covering March 2026 and updated on 3 April 2026, remains comfortably above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, indicating ongoing growth in Japan’s service industries. However, the dip from the prior 53.8 suggests a modest loss of momentum compared with earlier in the period.
Despite the slight slowdown, the data signal that Japan’s service providers are still experiencing broadly positive conditions, with the sector contributing to overall economic activity even as the pace of improvement shows signs of moderating.
