Mexican GDP Expands Most Since Q1 2022

Mexico’s GDP grew by 1.5% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, recovering from a 0.6% contraction in the first quarter. This was the strongest quarterly expansion since the first quarter of 2022 and surpassed market expectations of a 1.2% increase. The result was broadly consistent with the Bank of Mexico’s outlook, under which the central bank kept its policy rate unchanged as inflation eased over the period. By sector, growth was led by primary activities, up 3.3%, followed by a 4.6% increase in secondary activities and a 1.5% expansion in services. On an annual basis, economic activity rose 1.2%, the fastest year-on-year growth since the fourth quarter of 2023, driven mainly by primary activities.
