Brazil Producer Prices Fall the Most in a Year

Brazil’s producer prices declined by 0.77% month-over-month in June 2026, deepening from a 0.30% drop in May and marking the steepest monthly fall in a year. The downturn was led by the extractive industries, where producer prices sank 11.85% as crude oil, iron ore, and natural gas became cheaper, following an easing of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and increased shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz. Other significant negative contributors were the chemicals sector (-2.74%) and oil refining and biofuels (-2.30%).

By major economic category, intermediate goods fell 1.7%, exerting the greatest downward pressure on the overall index, while capital goods rose 1.02% and consumer goods edged up 0.25%. Over the first half of 2026, producer prices increased 3.99% and stood 2.51% higher than a year earlier.
