Ukraine’s Current Account Deficit Narrows in June, Easing External Pressure

Ukraine’s current account deficit showed a notable improvement in June 2026, narrowing to -$11.800 billion from -$18.134 billion recorded in May 2026. The latest figures, updated on 31 July 2026, indicate a moderation in external imbalances after a particularly weak performance in the previous month.

The month‑on‑month reduction in the deficit suggests some easing of pressures on Ukraine’s external position, which may reflect shifts in trade flows, external financing, or changes in income and transfer balances. While the current account remains firmly in negative territory, the smaller shortfall in June could be viewed as a tentative sign of stabilization following May’s deeper deficit.

Market participants and policymakers will be watching subsequent releases closely to determine whether June’s reading marks the beginning of a sustained improvement or a temporary correction in Ukraine’s current account dynamics.
