FX.co ★ Frost across Balkans makes migrant journeys harder

Despite the cold and snow and rumors that Europe will shut its borders, the influx of migrants along the Balkan route continues. Up to 2,500 people pass through Serbia every day heading for the EU.

However, only nationals of war-torn Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan are likely to be granted asylum in Western Europe. They confess that they have seen snow only in movies. Such walking journeys could put their lives in danger. Weather forecasters warn that the temperature on the Balkan Peninsula can sink to -20 degrees below zero.

Illegal migrants are moving toward the state border between Serbia and Macedonia in hope of catching a train.

Witnesses note that adult migrants left their homes in search of better life taking their kids. Together they are covering hundreds kilometers braving the icy conditions.
