Slovakia Inflation Picks Up to 15-Month High

In March 2025, Slovakia's annual inflation rate climbed to 4%, up from 3.8% in February, aligning with market forecasts. This represents the highest inflation rate recorded since December 2023. The increase was primarily fueled by heightened expenses across several categories: food and non-alcoholic beverages rose to 3.2% from 2.8% in February, alcoholic beverages and tobacco surged to 5.9% from 4.6%, while the hospitality sector, encompassing restaurants and hotels, jumped to 8.7% from 7.6%. Additionally, costs for miscellaneous goods and services grew to 6.9% from 6.7%, clothing and footwear increased to 3.2% from 2.8%, recreation and culture edged up to 4.6% from 4%, and education saw a significant rise to 10.6% from 9.7%. However, the pace of inflation decelerated in certain areas: housing and utilities dropped to 2.4% from 2.7%, transport fell to 1.1% from 2.6%, and communication decreased to 6.2% from 6.7%. On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3% in March after a previous 0.4% rise in February. Core inflation, a measure excluding regulated goods, reached a thirteen-month peak at 3% in March, up from 2.8% in February.
