GBP/USD
Market Analysis and Insights: The cable is trading around 1.3430 after retreating from recent two-month highs near the 1.3550 area as traders lock in profits while reassessing the monetary policy outlook for both the Bank of England (BoE) and the U.S. Federal Reserve. Recent sessions have been characterized by moderate volatility, with sterling initially benefiting from expectations that the BoE will keep policy relatively restrictive while softer U.S. inflation data reduced expectations for additional Fed tightening. However, renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, firmer demand for safe-haven assets, and political developments in the United Kingdom have encouraged some defensive U.S. dollar buying. Overall market positioning remains cautiously constructive for sterling, although short-term momentum has weakened. The dominant near-term bias is slightly bullish while price remains above major support near 1.3350, though upside appears limited unless fresh UK data or dovish Fed expectations emerge. Fundamental Analysis: The pound continues to receive underlying support from expectations that the Bank of England will maintain one of the more restrictive monetary policies among major central banks. UK inflation remains above the BoE's long-term target despite signs that headline price pressures have moderated from previous peaks. Sticky services inflation, resilient wage growth, and a relatively tight labour market continue to concern policymakers, reducing the urgency for aggressive rate cuts. Investors also remain attentive to UK fiscal developments following the country's political transition, with markets generally viewing expectations of a more fiscally disciplined government as supportive for sterling. Although UK GDP growth remains modest, service-sector activity continues to outperform manufacturing, helping prevent a sharp economic slowdown. Capital inflows into UK financial assets have also improved as investors regain confidence in Britain's fiscal outlook. Nevertheless, weaker business investment, slowing consumer spending, and elevated borrowing costs remain medium-term headwinds that could eventually limit sterling appreciation. The Federal Reserve remains highly data-dependent. Recent inflation reports have shown further moderation in both consumer and producer prices, reducing expectations that policymakers will need another immediate interest-rate increase. While labour-market conditions remain relatively healthy and economic growth continues to outperform many developed economies, slowing inflation has encouraged markets to price in a more patient Fed over the coming months. This has limited the U.S. dollar's broader upside. However, the greenback continues to receive periodic support from safe-haven demand as geopolitical tensions surrounding the Middle East increase uncertainty across global financial markets. Rising energy prices could also complicate the inflation outlook by slowing the recent disinflation trend. Consequently, investors continue balancing softer inflation against geopolitical risks, Treasury yield movements, and resilient U.S. economic data. This combination keeps the dollar fundamentally well supported despite reduced expectations for additional policy tightening. Overall, current macro fundamentals favour modest sterling resilience but do not yet justify a sustained breakout significantly above recent highs. H4 Chart Technical Analysis: GBP/USD remains within a broader recovery that began after defending the 1.3200–1.3250 support region earlier this month. Buyers successfully pushed the pair toward the 1.3550 resistance area before profit-taking triggered the current pullback. Price is now consolidating around 1.3430, which sits near the middle of the recent trading range. Immediate resistance is located around 1.3455, followed by 1.3500, while stronger selling interest may emerge again near 1.3550. Initial support is found around 1.3380, followed by the more significant 1.3350 level. A daily close beneath 1.3350 would expose the 1.3300 psychological area and potentially reopen downside pressure toward 1.3250. Conversely, a decisive break above 1.3455–1.3500 would improve bullish sentiment and increase the probability of another test of 1.3550, with 1.3600 becoming the next upside objective. Recent candlestick behaviour reflects indecision rather than outright bearish reversal, indicating that buyers remain active on dips while sellers continue defending higher resistance levels.
