NZD/USD

Technical and Fundamental Analysis of the NZD/USD pair NZD/USD recovered toward 0.5685 after rebounding from its mid-October lows, with the New Zealand dollar drawing support from improving short-term momentum and expectations of further monetary tightening by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ). Investors are now focused on New Zealand’s third-quarter consumer price index (CPI), which could influence expectations for the central bank’s next policy decision. At the same time, uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s October meeting remains a key driver of the US dollar’s direction. RBNZ Chief Economist Paul Conway has indicated that pressure for further policy tightening is increasing, although the decision at the end of October remains uncertain. Following a 25-basis-point rate increase at its September meeting, the central bank left the official cash rate (OCR) at 2.75%. The next decision will depend heavily on whether inflation remains persistent enough to justify another increase or whether price pressures are beginning to ease. New Zealand’s upcoming third-quarter inflation report is therefore particularly important. Headline CPI is expected to rise by 0.8% quarter-on-quarter, slowing from 1.5% in the previous quarter. The annual inflation rate is forecast to ease to approximately 3.8%, compared with 4.1% in the second quarter. If inflation remains stronger than expected, markets may increase bets on another RBNZ rate hike, potentially providing additional support for the New Zealand dollar. The US dollar faces its own policy uncertainty ahead of the Federal Reserve’s October 27–28 meeting. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said at the 2026 IMF annual meeting in Bangkok that he would not prejudge the upcoming interest-rate decision. His comments left investors uncertain about whether the central bank will keep rates unchanged or consider another adjustment. Markets are closely monitoring upcoming US economic data and further policy signals for clues about the Fed’s next move. If the Fed maintains interest rates while the RBNZ continues to signal a willingness to tighten policy, the relative interest-rate outlook could become more favorable for NZD/USD. However, the effect will depend on how much of the expected policy divergence is already reflected in currency prices. A more hawkish Fed stance or renewed strength in US Treasury yields could limit the Kiwi’s recovery, even if New Zealand inflation remains elevated. Developments in China are another consideration for the New Zealand dollar, given New Zealand’s close trade links with the Chinese economy. The People’s Bank of China kept its loan prime rates unchanged in October, leaving the one-year LPR at 3.00% and the five-year LPR at 3.50%. Although the decision offered no immediate policy surprise, the outlook for Chinese demand remains relevant to sentiment toward the New Zealand economy and its currency. NZD/USD is trading near 0.5685 after recovering from the 0.5565–0.5585 area in mid-October. The four-hour (H4) chart shows improving momentum, with price moving above the 20-period simple moving average (SMA), which is rising and providing dynamic support around 0.5665–0.5670. The 50 SMA remains near 0.5680–0.5690, creating a nearby resistance area that the pair must overcome to confirm a stronger bullish continuation. H4 demand is concentrated between 0.5640 and 0.5660. Buyers stepped in aggressively in this region during the recent rebound, making it an important support base if the pair experiences a pullback. On the upside, supply sits around 0.5695–0.5710, where previous swing highs and rejection points have limited advances. A sustained break above this zone could open the way for further gains beyond the 0.5700 psychological threshold. The one-hour (H1) chart presents a more constructive picture. Price is trading above both the rising 20 SMA near 0.5675 and the 50 SMA around 0.5660–0.5665. This alignment supports the short-term bullish bias, while the 0.5660–0.5665 region provides immediate demand where buyers may attempt to defend the recovery. Near-term resistance is located at 0.5688–0.5695, followed by the stronger 0.5700 level. A decisive break above this cluster could strengthen bullish momentum and bring the H4 supply zone at 0.5695–0.5710 into focus. Conversely, a rejection at resistance followed by a move below 0.5675 would weaken the immediate outlook and expose support around 0.5660–0.5665. A deeper decline toward 0.5640–0.5660 would become possible if that demand area fails.
